The Explorer was meant to be a 36mm watch, the 39 seems like it was a ten year experiment that didn't pan out. The narrow taper feels small at first, but you get used to it after . I have recently acquired a new Explorer 36mm, and having a hard time finding the right bracelet fit. No matter how I play with links, micro adjustment, easy link, it’s always either too tight or too loose. Rolex explorer 36mm? I just tried on the 40mm Explorer for the first time on my 6.5" wrist- I wear a DJ41 regularly, and I felt the 40mm Explorer looked "too big for what it is". Here's a photo, hope that makes sense.

I prefer 39-41mm but nothing larger than that. As a general rule, I'd say 36mm is somewhat small for your size wrist. The New 36mm Explorer 124270. I had the chance to play with the new 2021 36mm Explorer release yesterday. and it was underwhelming. As a smaller wrist guy and a 14270 owner, I welcomed the 36mm change to the Explorer. Hello all, quick question and want to get opinions here. I’m currently torn bw trying to pick up a 36mm older Explorer I or the 39mm version. I have a 7.25” wrist that sometimes swells up a bit. I normally wear a 40mm dead dweller and the newer 43mm SD as well as my speedy. All “largish” watches.
Picked up a new 36mm Explorer today, must say for my wrist it’s certainly a better fit over my 39mm, overall very impressive watch that feels such a nice balance of modern with vintage heritage.
